Noble born, a descendant of the greatest kings their planet has known, Hel willingly bears the burden of his dying city and its people on his massive shoulders—alone. But forced to watch helplessly as a dark evil attacks the very soil under his feet, he crushes his pride to summon help. He is staggered to discover the answer to saving his city and perhaps all Verdantia might lie behind a heavy fall of chocolate hair and shy brown eyes.
As their entire planet faces encroaching black death, Hel and Adonia, two seemingly disparate individuals, forge a partnership of love and sacrifice that alters their future forever. All of Verdantia will be tested.
Review: This was a bit more of an interesting story. So Adonia has a bit of a self esteem issue thanks to her previous lover. She doesn't see herself as womanly and attractive and therefore takes no more lovers. She studies to be a healer and is good at it. This bit of vulnerability makes her easier to relate to. She's a little different from our other heroines in the series because of it, yet similar. She has a fearless side, as she is a trained warrior as well. Hel is interesting because he's a prince and bears a heavy load. He's lost his family and is slowly losing his people. He has to swallow his pride to ask for help. In Adonia he finds the planet's salvation, and his own.
I love this story. There were a few part where I kind of grit my teeth because Hel is so overbearing and commanding. But it's quite adorable to also watch him berate himself when he feels he's made an error. Would've been nice to see her push back a bit. If there is one thing I love to see, it's a woman who will stand her ground and occasionally make her male bow down. That being said, if there's more to the series, I can't wait to read it.
