Character Interview: Talis, Teryn, & Cian

8/21/2014

So, while I love my Dragon Hunter series, there are two other series in the works. It's time to introduce you all to those characters. Let's start with the series I'm calling the Coven. The first of the main characters, and the one to make himself clear to me, is Talis. To give you some background on this series, the Coven consists of three people, Talis, his sister Teryn, and her husband Cian. It's set on an island, Genum Island, off the coast of South Carolina. These three witches face off against warlocks and demons while also dealing with their own unique situations. The entire series will feature these three as the main characters and they'll have quite a few adventures, leading up to one big earth shattering fight that's much farther down the line. So, let's start of with giving you an idea of what they look like, and then we'll get to the fun part, getting to know them.

So as I'm sitting in my living room a few months ago, I got treated to two hot guys and a hot chick.
"Hey, is it my birthday?" I wondered aloud.
"Nope, but you already knew that." The male who spoke had light brown skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes that turned grey a few seconds later. He was on the thinner side and about 5’9” tall. Actually, he was built a lot like me. I'd rather have been pulling his hair.
"You're the guy that gets to tell our story to the world, Drako, isn't it?" It was the woman who spoke this time. She was light skinned with brown eyes and long brownish red hair. Her figure was something to behold, I must say. She was one of those chicks with the hourglass figure that makes ordinary women scowl at her.
"Well if he isn't, we'll have to cast one hell of a spell to make him forget us." The other male, a the tallest of the three at about 5'11" spoke this time. He was a different kind of hot. He was more of a nerdy hot, which means nothing except he's hot and wears glasses. Unlike the other two, he was a white guy. Again, means nothing, except he's a hot white guy instead of a hot black guy and I have no preferences when it comes to race. Hot is hot. He had short dark hair and piercing blue eyes that were almost unsettling. He was a little heavier than the first guy, the black guy.
"Oh yay, more people to take up residence in my head. Should I be taking notes?" I asked.
The black guy smiled. "Just remember our names and I think you'll be good. I'm Talis."
"I'm Teryn, and I'm his younger sister." The woman flashed me a dazzling smile.
"I'm her husband, Cian." The white guy's smile was a different kind of dazzling, more of the "I'm hot and will kick your ass if you hit on my chick but feel free to gawk" kind of smile.
"Alright, so, you're witches, right?" Better to move on that get an ass kicking from a guy who will be in residence in your head for the foreseeable future.
"Yep, we're a Coven and Talis is the leader," Teryn told me.
Talis scowled at her. "There's no leader in this coven."
Teryn rolled her eyes. "Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile as soon as a demon shows up, who starts giving orders?"
"You should get used to this. They argue constantly," Cian warned me.
"Oh joy." Did you catch the sarcasm in that? If you didn't, now you did.
"I don't give orders. I make suggestions and you follow them."
"That's an order, bitch," Teryn shot back.
Well damn, I knew I liked her. I couldn't help laughing at that one.
"No one says you have to follow them. You could always do what you want and get your ass handed to you." Talis smirked at her.
"Go fuck yourself, big brother."
Cian chose to sit next to me on the one blue couch I have in my living room. "I deal with this on a daily basis."
"How do you cope with it?" I asked.
"Mostly by laughing and staying out of the way. They like to throw things and I know better than to get in the middle. Talis tossed me across a room once by accident." He cleared his throat to get the attention of the arguing brother and sister. "You two are giving a horrible first impression. We're supposed to be introducing ourselves to him and his readers."
"Shut the hell up!" The siblings told him in unison.
"See what I mean?" he said to me.
"Ok, so, obvious question here, where's your, uh, significant other, Talis?" I asked.
"He means boyfriend," Teryn told him.
Talis flipped her off before returning his attention to me. "To answer your question, I have one, and he's working. Besides, we felt like you should get to know the Coven first before dealing with my love life."
"Yeah, because frankly his love life just gets more and more complicated," Teryn muttered.
"It's not complicated. I have one boyfriend and he just came in on less than favorable circumstances," Talis replied.
"Yeah, a warlock chasing you due to a sick obsession and severe insecurity," Cian told me.
"So, in other words, you two are going to give me hell with your story?" I asked Talis.
"Depends on your definition of hell," he replied. "There's plenty of sex. I hope you're getting laid on the regular."
"No problems there. I meant with the emotional stuff."
"Oh, that." Talis shrugged. "We're all human."
"Alright, so lets get to the basics. You're witches and you're in a coven."
"We're actually referred to as the Coven," Teryn corrected.
"What's the difference?" I asked.
"We're something of a chosen group among witches. We inherited a house on Genum Island that sits on top of an ancient source of power that's sought after by witches, demons, and everyone else," Cian explained.
"It's our job to protect that source of power from any that would attempt and fail to use it, and we spend a lot of time demon hunting," Talis added.
"What's the difference, for my readers that don't know, between a witch and a warlock?"
"A witch follows the Craft. They aim to be a positive force in the world. They use their power to help others and bring about beneficial change. They protect others from those that would do harm. Warlocks are selfish. They squander the gift of magic we're given by the Lord and Lady for personal gain," Teryn explained.
"Warlock is a term that translates to liar or deceiver, and warlocks are really good at that," Cian added. "They're human, like us, but they have a darkness inside them. They're greedy, and the form of their greed varies."
"They also tend to be extremely insecure and can become prey for demons." Talis scowled. "They're much harder to do away with because they're human and we avoid killing humans at all costs."
"Although sometimes shit happens," Teryn mumbled.
"That it does," Talis agreed.
"So, were you born on the island?"
Cian shook his head. "We're from right here in St. Louis, with you. We moved to the island when we were chosen to be part of the Coven."
"We all grew up here together, actually. Somehow these two fell for each other and got hitched, then we were chosen to inherit the manor on Genum Island."
"Who chose you, exactly?" I asked.
"The God and Goddess," Teryn replied.
"Actually, Cian was supposed to inherit it anyway," Talis told me. "His mother and her sisters had it last. They were the last Coven. Unforunately, his mother and father were killed when he was young and he had no siblings. So instead of getting passed down to biological siblings as was tradition, Teryn and I were chosen."
"Talis is like my older brother anyway," Cian told me. "But I never could think of Teryn like a sister."
"Well if you did, that'd be rather sick," Talis told him. "I mean, you're married to her now. Who marries someone they think of as a sister?"
One of my couch pillows went flying and hit Talis in the head.
"So you do have a temper?" I asked Cian, very aware of who'd thrown it.
Cian shrugged. "Talis often deserves what he gets."
"So, let's give everyone a clue. How are you guys starting things off in your story?"
"With Talis reconnecting with the love of his life," Teryn answered with a grin.
Talis smacked her with the pillow Cian had hit him with. "We should have started with you two getting together."
"That wasn't nearly as adventurous as your story. And I had such fun watching you fall head over heels."
"You know what I'm going to have fun with? Watching you with morning sickness when you and Cian finally decide it's time to spawn a brat into the world. And since you keep calling me the leader, I call dibs on naming your first born child." Talis stuck his tongue out at his sister. It was childish but kind of cute. Hmmm....
"And on that note, it's about time to head out." Cian stood up. "Come on children. Your pillow fights always get serious and it's bad enough when you mess up rooms in the manor.

Well, that was certainly an interesting introduction for me to the characters. Now you see how characters pop up in my head. And yes, these are the conversations I have to have with them. This is just the first of many, I'm sure. After all, we haven't even met the boyfriend yet.
I'm thinking the first book, where you will get to the meet the boyfriend, will be about in November of this year.

The Pendragon Legacy: Sons of Camelot book One by Sarah Luddington

Synopsis: “I am just a man, I am not the Black Wolf of Albion or the White Hart of Camelot, I am just a man. I have but one task – to keep Galahad du Lac alive and away from the Lady of the Lake long enough for him to take the throne of Albion. I will do this for the sake of Camelot and my heritage, but also because Galahad du Lac is possibly the only man I will ever truly love.”

Loholt Pendragon and Galahad du Lac are the two men set to rule Albion now the old guard are gone.

Unfortunately, Loholt is burdened by a crown he doesn’t want and a heritage of which he feels unworthy. Galahad is burdened by his parent’s sacrifice to The Lady.

Her hate for the royal family has left Galahad profoundly damaged and a difficult man with whom to reason.

These two young men must find a way to work together to save their families, their heritage and ultimately each other.

The first book in a new series based on hugely successful Knights of Camelot that began with Lancelot and the Wolf.

Review: I love this author. I have since the first book of Knights of Camelot. That series was an emotional roller coaster. I can already tell this one will be the same. I love Loholt, Arthur's son, a lot more than I did his father. He's very comfortable with who he is, but he doesn't like the responsibility that comes with being the oldest living child of King Arthur and heir to the throne of Camelot. He doesn't want to marry a woman he can't truly love just to have children. He doesn't want the complicated love life his father and Lancelot had. Too bad he's already got it. Galahad is a victim in all this. Raised by the very strict, rigid, and misguided Lady of the lake, he's supposed to rule her way when he gets to challenge for the throne. He's raised to believe that his mother, Morgana, and father, Lancelot, were tainted and poisoning Avalon. I still hate the Lady, as I should, and reading this story I ache for Loholt, who goes through the ultimate embarassment at one point in the line of duty to protect the future king and the man he's in love with. Both face betrayal and heartache, and I cannot wait for the second book in this series.

The Warrior Queen (The Guinevere Trilogy) by Lavinia Collins

Synposis:
'The Warrior Queen' is the first instalment of 'The Guinevere Trilogy', a new series of eBooks that reimagines the famous story of Queen Guinevere for a modern audience.
When her people's army is destroyed in the war with King Arthur, Guinevere is horrified to discover that her conqueror has demanded to have her as his bride. She arrives at Camelot angry and resentful, but quickly finds that the king who defeated her people in battle is not the brute she expected. Slowly, she gains a fragile happiness in her new home, but this is threatened when war comes again. When her life is saved on the battlefield by a mysterious French knight, Guinevere finds herself caught between desire and duty, the longing for happiness in the new life she has, and her desire to be free and follow her heart.

This original re-imagining of a much-loved legend gives readers a new Guinevere; passionate, headstrong and fiercely independent. An immersive adventure through Arthurian legend, steeped in magic, passion and intrigue, this book won’t disappoint, ‘The Warrior Queen’ retells the classic narrative through the eyes of a queen determined to escape the bounds her society has placed on her, determined not to be ruled by the men who surround her, and determined to be master of her own destiny.

Review: I have a love for the story of King Arthur that started back in my childhood and has never gone away. I've never been overly fond of the Guinevere character. I was more of a fan of Merlin, personally. This is a much different telling of the story of Guinevere, and makes her infinitely more interesting and likeable than the original tales as well as some stories I've read from other authors. She's a bit of a wild thing, and definitely her own person. Forced into a role she doesn't really want, she grows accustomed to thing and falls in love with Arthur, at least. As always, there must be the affair with Lancelot, which is generally what made me dislike her in the first place. But the telling of the story is great and the story itself, a much different version, compelling enough for me to want to read on in the future.

Great Powers (The Great Powers Book 2) by Dana Michelle Belle

Synopsis: It’s been ten years since the destruction of Tolen-Ire. The divine world is besieged, its portals cut off. The holy city is about to fall, and then a lost portal opens, giving Warren one last, desperate chance.
Ambrose has spent the last decade as a slave and without magic he has grown hard and angry. As Ambrose regains his abilities, he unlocks the greatest magical power in the last thousand years. He has enough raw power to conjure storms of fire, restore the portals, maybe even raise the dead. Unless Xanthus can reach the humanity within him, Ambrose may turn out to be a destroyer of worlds, rather than a savior.

Review: This book is amazing. I loved the first and this one just keeps it going. I need more from this author. Xanthus is my personal favorite here, though I sort of like Ambrose, I miss Brice from the first book. I was the most attached to Brice but perhaps because of the fatality he knew was ahead. Xanthus is scarred from his actions in the first book. He's punishing himself, and then here comes Ambrose. Ambrose doesn't remember certain things, he just knows what he wants and goes for it. I can respect that. I can respect the fact that he makes no bones about being who and what he is. We knew he was special. And I can see how he would draw Xanthus out of his depression and self loathing. I sincerely hope the author is still writing, because she has no social media to harass her on and there has to be more to the story.

Synopsis: Now available from Linkville Press!

Two families: one white, one black. One family escapes the oppression of 19th-century slavery; the other seeks refuge from the oppression of nature gone wrong. They meet in the wilds of Oregon, in a world far different from the places of their origins.

Hope is a strong, vivacious girl, open to friendships and willing to accept all. Joshua is the black teen who becomes her best friend, even though her family does not wish it. When Hope goes blind from scarlet fever, Joshua is instrumental in finding help for her, and Elijah and Mia pave the way for a relationship that spans the centuries.

A few years pass, and now Joshua comes to Hope’s aid again, when it seems there is a way to regain her sight. When their relationship blooms into something more serious, it turns out that the ones who are truly blind are those who let racism stand in the way of love.

Set in 1800s Oregon, Hope’s journey has her meeting historical figures such as Oregon Senator George Baldwin and Mr. William Clark (Montana’s Copper King) and is a story that will surpass the limitations of prejudice.

Review: Historical fiction or historical romance isn't really my genre. However, I read this and found it to be interesting. It is written from several characters' perspective, giving the reader insight into the minds and feelings of each character instead of just the eyes of one. It's a historical romance, and as such must have had some research behind it, which the author clearly did and did well. This was a sweet romance touching on more than just the love, but also the racial issues of the time and the courage of the characters to look past what society of the time told them was wrong to reach happiness. It's a very touching and well written, well researched story that paints a very accurate view, in my opinion, of the feelings of the time.

Character Interview: Victoria & Ares

8/11/2014

Last one to upload from the release day. I loved this one.

Second Q&A for today is the second couple introduced, and one fans always want to know more about. Got a little help from Drache on this one

Drache: Victoria, it’s obvious you can be one of the guys. What do you do when you’re not fighting to save the universe and raising Dragana?

Victoria: I’m never resting, if that’s what you’re getting at. I’m in the service of both of my parents. Vacations are for humans, apparently.

Drako: I did notice you got no break after giving birth.

Victoria: I wasn’t going to let my nephew suffer.

Ares: Frankly, I wasn’t able to hold her back at all. I would have liked for her to slow down.
Drache: Ares, based on how I picture you when I’m reading, I totally see you in full-on biker gear riding a motorcycle into battle. Are you a fan of motorcycles at all?

Ares: Sure, the Harleys. I don’t like those slim things, what are they called?

Victoria: Ninjas or something like that.

Ares: Yeah those. I hate those. I like people to know when the god of war is arriving. But they’re not practical for heavenly wars. So the chariot always does the trick.

Drache: Victoria, how often do you have to beat up Ares to keep him in line?

Victoria: Now you just make me sound abusive.

Ares: If the shoe fits….

Victoria: I am not abusive. How does one abuse the god of war?

Ares: Marriage gives you a lot of rights, woman.

Victoria: I totally don’t have to take this.

Ares: Proving my point.

Drako: Ok, big question, are you getting another book?

Victoria: *shrugs* Do I really have that much more to tell?

Ares: You’re the most powerful witch in existence, the Dragon Witch, only daughter of Jarel and Hecate. You have plenty more to tell.

Victoria: What do you know?

Ares: Hi, god of war here. I can pretty much learn anything I need to know. I’m a god, residing on Olympus, and the son of Zeus and Hera. You’ve got a few old enemies….

Victoria: Shut it. I was trying to leave some kind of suspense here.

Ares: That defeats the purpose of a Q&A, wife.

Victoria: Bite me.

Drako: Last question. Where’s Dragana?

Victoria: Zeus and Hera are babysitting. Who’d have thought they’re just like human grandparents?

Ares: Yeah, they’re soft on the grandkids. They never get hit with thunderbolts.

Victoria: it’s also the funniest thing ever to watch Zeus scramble behind an infant trying to figure out what she wants. Hilarious. There’s really no other sight like the king of heaven getting distraught over an infant who’s teething.

Ares: She said the same thing about me.

Victoria: Because it was really fucking funny.

Character Interview: Brandon & Demun

Another post from the release day, from the main characters this time.

Pretty sure several people are waiting to hear from the twins. The latest book is their book, finally.

Drako: So, we’ve been waiting for five books for you two to get things together. What took so long?
Brandon: You sure don’t start off with easy questions.
Demun: I was underage in the first book you know.
Brandon: And I was with Adonis by the end of it. That’s who I thought I was meant for.

Drako: It became a bit obvious by the end of the second book who you were meant for.
Brandon: No one said getting with your soul mate had to be easy.
Demun: Damn right they didn’t.

Drako: Where are your mates now?
Brandon: Can we answer that without spoiling the book?
Demun: Don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem.
Brandon: Mine is out hunting.
Demun: No fucking clue what mine is up to.

Drako: Ok, lets tread into safer waters. How are the kids?
Brandon: Working on controlling their powers. They are the new Fates after all.
Demun: Athena tends to keep our daughter more often these days. She’s not ready for her to be in Shevat with me for extended periods of time. I have to visit her on Olympus.

Drako: How’s godhood treating you?
Brandon: About the same as life in general treated us before. Just when we think life is grand, it kicks us in the balls.
Demun: That about sums it up.

Drako: I’m surprised we didn’t see your eldest uncle a bit more in this story.
Brandon: He wasn’t able to be around much. We still see him often.
Demun: For an ancient Spartan warrior, he’s fun to be around. He’s a bit too competitive on videogames.

Drako: Yeah, been meaning to ask, what’s up with that?
Brandon: Guy has to kill time somehow. Xbox live sessions are the most amusing things you will ever hear.
Demun: He comes up with really creative names, normally in ancient Greek, to call us when we’re beating him.

Drako: Who else is in on those?
Brandon: Ares, Heracles, some of my knights, some of Demun’s warriors, more of our uncles, couple of our aunts.
Demun: Surprisingly not Victoria though.

Drako: What’s next for our twins? Surely you have more stories to tell?
Brandon: Our children will have a story to tell down the road.
Demun: And there are a lot of things we have to do too. We’ll be around, but it’ll be someone else’s story. The main goal of our story was to get with our soul mates.

Drako: Glad you got around to it. You gave me hell writing this book.
Brandon: Wasn’t intentional.
Demun: Definitely wasn’t. But at least you’re done.
Brandon: Yeah, now you get to deal with Anaya and Galen.
Drako: Great *sarcasm*

Character Interview: Andreas & Kazarian

8/11/2014

This was an interview I did on the day I released Relinquished Mercy, the latest book in the series.

Drako: You haven’t been seen much since Victoria’s story. Just a few times here and there. Where have you two been?

Andreas: I'm general in my father’s army. My job was to gather and organize. There were a lot of battles against Typhon. I led the charge.

Kazarian: I’m Ares’ right hand god. I go where he tells me.

Drako: So, you haven’t seen much of each other?

Andreas: Not as much as I’d like, which is why Ares will have my boot print on his face shortly.

Kazarian: That’s a bit harsh. The war’s over so we have our time now.

Andreas: Don’t care.

Kazarian *sighs*

Drako: What’s next now that the war is over?

Andreas: Enjoying retirement again. There’ll be lots of videogames in my future.

Kazarian: And spending time with me.

Andreas: Yeah, when Ares isn’t being a dick.

Kazarian: Takes one to know one.

Drako: There’s a rumor that you may get another book. Any truth to that?

Andreas: There’s always more to the story. I’d say it’s likely.

Kazarian: Highly likely.

Drako: Any hints for the readers?

Andreas: I’ll be apologizing a lot.

Kazarian: Damn right you will.

Drako: Sounds like trouble in paradise.

Andreas: That’s an understatement. I’ve been around a long time. I’ve done my fair share of dirt. It always comes back on me one way or another.

Kazarian: There’s always a threat around the corner. No more godly wars, but there are other problems.

Andreas: I think there are other stories to be told before ours though.

Kazarian: Now, we’d better go enjoy some time to ourselves while I don’t have a desire to rip his head off.

Drako: Ouch

Character Interview: Demun

8/11/2014

So apparently Demun has some issues with some misconceptions and has demanded a solo interview. Well, he’s the Demon God King, so who am I to argue with him?

Me: So, what’s going on? Shouldn’t you be happily enjoying marriage and parenthood?

Demun: Say that again and I’ll shank you.

Drako: Oh that’s really friendly.

Vic: Welcome to my life kid. We have the absolute oddest marriage ever. I think he’s a bit too much like his grandfather.

Jarel: Don’t you dare put that on me. That’s his grandmother’s side of him.

Demun: How about both of you go away? This is my interview time.

Vic: Someone should turn you over their knee. Sounds like an idea.

Jarel: That’s gross and I’m so out of here on that one.

Can’t help but shake my head and chuckle here. The primordial god of black fire is grossed out by playful sex talk. But it is his grandson involved. I guess we can forgive him.

Demun: Anyway, marriage is great, when the asshole that is my husband is being less of an asshole. As far as parenting, gotta love my daughter but you do know who her mother is, right? Co-parenting with the goddess of war is no picnic.

Me: So, what’s up with the interview? You kind of demanded it, you know?

Demun: Yeah, I tend to do that. So here’s the deal. You ever watch anime or science fiction stuff and notice how they depict demons? That kind of pisses me off.

Me: Gonna have to be more specific here guy.

Demun: Ok, you were watching one the other day, something about some brat being the son of Lucifer….

Me: Technically they said Satan.

Demun: Who the hell cares? It’s the same jackass under different names. I use his actual name. Point is, I hate how demons are depicted. There’s a lot of misconceptions and I think those should be cleared up.

Me: In our defense, you’ve only shown us one demon that wasn’t crazed and very shortly after butchered by you or your family.

Demun: Don’t get me wrong. Demons are a violent, fickle race. But, all demons aren’t evil. Look at Krazas, my general. He’s more of a benefit to mankind.

Me: There’s also that myth that demons are descended from fallen angels.

Demun: Yeah, that bullshit. Look, fact is, demons are descended from Desdemona and Lucifer. Lucifer is the son of Erebus and Nyx, darkness and night. Desdemona is the daughter of Verlaine, creator of the angels and the Fae. But demons aren’t descended from the Fae. Only connection they have is misguided hatred due to Desdemona being the dumb bitch she was and helping Lucifer kill her mother.

Me: That’s slightly confusing.

Demun: Not my fault if you can’t keep up. Fact is, angels and demons aren’t actually related. They’re creations of different gods with differing beliefs. Fact is, not all angels are beneficial and not all demons are destructive. All creatures have free will. Angels fall a lot more often then they’d like you to believe, and demons have been known to actually help humanity. I’ll even let you in on a secret. A lot of the ancient pantheons of gods that man worshiped weren’t gods at all. They were demons that worked to benefit man.

Me: Those demons weren’t accused of hubris?

Demun: They weren’t telling anyone they were greater than other gods. Zeus didn’t give a damn. It didn’t interfere with his rule of the universe and they weren’t attempting to rise against him. If they had, he’d have wiped them out.

Me: So these gods exist still?

Demun: Some of them. Some of them I took out. They liked my grandmother better. I liked setting them on fire.

Me: Harsh.

Demun: Takes a harsh kind of god to keep demons in line.

Me: Have you made any changes to laws since you took over?

Demun: Oh yeah, I sealed Shevat off. Demons can’t get out without going through specific portals, and my armies control those. a lot of demons have gotten slaughtered lately. Some of those stories you hear about demons are true, and I’m attempting to contain those particular demons. They can wreak all the havoc they want in Shevat, but when they try to cross to the mortal world, they get to find out why I’m the God King and they have to do what I say.

Me: Alright, so let’s be frank. When are you showing up in the books again? I haven’t seen you yet in Blood Monarch.

Demun: I don’t like the Fae and I’ve already discovered that I tend to have misunderstandings with certain angels. Didn’t really want to be around for all that. Besides, I love my twin with all my heart and soul, but we’re two separate gods with separate responsibilities. You’ll see more of me though. Don’t you have to continue my uncles’ story?

Me: Yep, that’s the next one.

Demun: Yeah me and Vic will be all through that story. I love my two uncles so with all that they go through, I had to come around. A lot. Seriously, that was one hell of a situation. I’d rather go toe to toe with Typhon again than to have to go through anything like that. Speaking of which, where the hell is Vic?

Vic: Oh now you want me around? This was your interview, remember?

Demun: No one likes a smart ass.

Vic: What do you want?

Demun: Got any secrets I need to know about? You know, ones that might make my life complicated later?

Vic: Really? You’re just going to put me on the spot in the middle of an interview?

Oh this is just perfect. I’m just sitting back watching them argue. These two are great. You’d think they’ve been together for 50 years or so. Soul mates are so interesting to watch in person.

Demun: Oh, now you want to be shy? It’s a simple question.

Vic: The hell it is. That’s complex and you’re a jerk for asking me in front of guests.

Me: I kind of resent being called a guest. I’m the guy writing your stories. Sharing them with the world. Kind of a douchebag comment.

Demun: See, this is why I like you, Drako. You freely call Vic out when he’s a douchebag. And he’s almost always a douchebag.

Vic: Oh and you’re just the resident god of kindness and love and happiness? Dude, I live with you. You actually hurl fireballs at people if you feel your sleep is interrupted. Then you killed one of the demon kings because he gave you a weird look.

Demun: He was trying to figure out the best way to attack me. I read it in his mind. So I struck first. He’s in Tartarus, I’m still on my throne, everything is all good.

Vic: Then there’s the nanny Athena had to help with your daughter.

Demun: Oh, I know you’re not going there with me. You thought Vax was making a move on your brat and tried to shoot him.

Vic: I didn’t really try or I wouldn’t have missed.

See what I mean? It’s probably best to let them just keep going and quietly sneak out of the room. Anyway, got a little insight on demons here. Pretty sure we’ll get to know them better all too soon.

Character Interview: Merlin

I don’t know about you, but Merlin is a mystery I want to solve. There are so many stories involving this man, I thought it’d be a good time to sit down and talk with him. Maybe he’ll shed some light on himself for all of you too.

Me: So, I have to say, you’re one of my favorite historical figures of all time. There’s a lot of different stories about you.

Merlin: *chuckles* Yes, there are many tales, some based on truth, some completely false. Things are often changed throughout the course of history.

Me: Well, I don’t want to be rude, but let’s start with the obvious. The biggest mystery is perhaps how you were born and what race you’re descended from.

Merlin: That is a good one. If you must be technical about it, I suppose I am half Fae, and half human. I’m something of an experiment, I’m told. Hecate meddled a bit to have me conceived.

Me: That’s a bit odd. Did she have a particular goal.

Merlin: But of course she did. What that is, I’ll probably never know, but Hecate always has a goal with whatever she does. But I was raised mostly in the mortal world. My father was one of the Fae, and a very powerful one. He could not remain with my mother for reasons that have never made much sense. The laws the Fae have imposed are strange and often times petty.

Me: Wait a sec, I thought the angels made the laws for the Fae.

Merlin: Definitely not. In the beginning, they did. But their orders from the goddess Verlaine were to let the race thrive on their own. This is why the angels live separately from the Fae now. Different laws govern the races.

Me: You’re very familiar with that side of you.

Merlin: Yes, I’m quite familiar with them. I spent my formative mortal years with my mother, but my father most certainly paid visits when possible and eventually, I was brought to the land of the Fae. Most specifically to the aisle of Avalon.

Me: The place where King Arthur was said to be sent to rest after the battle with Mordred. Any truth to that?

Merlin: The stories they tell of Arthur are always so very interesting. No, he was not sent to Avalon. He died in that battle. He defeated Mordred but sustained wounds that were to great to be healed. In reality, it was simply the man’s time. And with him came the fall of Camelot.

Me: I’m pretty sure the story says that you took Excalibur and threw it into the lake, giving it back to the Lady of the Lake.

Merlin: *chuckles again* Yes, one of the many names for Hecate. The goddess comes to us in many forms. There was a lake she took to communicate with Druids back in the old days. That was the name the Druids gave her. And Excalibur was her sword, one she had crafted by Hephaestus and blessed with some of her own power. I imagine she still has it. She’s probably waiting to give it to someone new, her next Chosen.

Me: I got the feeling there would be more. So how did she come to choose you?

Merlin: Well, it’s her meddling that brought about my birth in the first place. I was Chosen from the start, and my parents knew it. But we noticed a problem early on in that I could not use my Fae powers in the mortal realm. It was Hecate that decided I was to be a witch and personally taught me to use my powers. My actions have generally been guided by her. Some things are simply fate and could not be avoided, such as Arthur’s death.

Me: So, how well do you get along with Jarel? Seems like he’s a tough one for most people, at best, to tolerate.

Merlin: I get along with him quite well. After all, he’s the oldest of the gods, the most dangerous of them, and never a god to have upset at you. Besides, he doesn’t really hate my kind, whether you refer to me as witch, Fae, human, or hybrid. He just hates the angels.

Me: How do you get along with the angels?

Merlin: Some I get along well with, others I’ve had a skirmish or two with.

Me: I’ve been wondering how well a Fae matches up to an angel.

Merlin: If they don’t fear they angel, they can match up just fine. It is the fear with which Fae are raised that prompts them to fear the angels. They can be defeated, the same as any other foe.

Me: So, how was the training of Vax? We didn’t get to see much of it. Are you done training him?

Merlin: We’ve gone through the basics and he’s handy at wielding Mjolnir. His confidence is building, and confidence is everything in the Craft. I’m not sure I like his mate’s influence…..

Me: Whoa, no one knows who his mate is yet. I haven’t put that story out.

Merlin: *laughs* My apologies. I suppose that’s a story for our next interview. Next time you should bring along some fan questions. I thoroughly enjoyed when the eldest Dragon was hit with those odd ball questions. It is enchanting to see him flustered.

Me: I’ll keep that in mind for next time. Where are you off to?

Merlin: I think I’ll go home and take a good long nap. I’m not a young man you know, and sleep is always beneficial at my age.

Me: What is your age?

Merlin: *laughs again* Oh my, we’re suddenly out of time, aren’t we?

Crafty old witch, isn’t he? I’ll get him next time
